mugu

Mugu is a voice user interface (VUI) that facilitates multi-user music management in the car.

It was created at Carnegie Mellon University for the class Basic Interaction Design.

Team: Yoomi Lee, Lauren VonDehsen, and Sarah Harissis.

The Mugu logo. The name of our product was a melding of the words "music" and "guru."

Since a voice user interface typically lacks any visual display, a large portion of this project was development of the information architecture. We were not very familiar with voice interfaces, so we went through a review of current literature on the subject.

We also went through a form of rapid experience prototyping, asking users to act out a number of short scenarios of use of our design. This helped us make iterative changes to the design.

The final design emphasizes the social aspect of playing music in the car. We wanted to differentiate our product by focusing on the relationships and interactions between passengers as they share and listen to music together.

As part of the final presentation of the design, we produced a video sketch that exemplified some typical uses of our system.
